OUTPOST – COCKATOO ISLAND
You Only Live Once was invited to attend a sneak preview into the grounds of the new art Outpost Project held at Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour, commencing this Friday the 4th, November. Outpost has invited more than 150 world renowned artists to be a part of something pretty special, they will be transforming the entire island into a massive street art gallery space, from installations, exhibitions and workshops, Outpost will occupy the island for 5 weeks. During that time there will be DJ performances, Red Bull Shadow Wars, Secret Wars (art battle) and also the Skateboarding Australia 2011 Pro/Am Tour Grand Final (10th December) which is worth the trip alone.
Cockatoo Island is just a short 15 minute ferry from Circular Quay and entry is free with your ferry ticket, pretty sweet deal!? All this is just the tip of the proverbial paintbrush, as over the course of the 5 weeks, there will be constantly something going on. Our suggestion would be to stay on top of what’s happening and really try to get out there as much as you can, it’s really exciting to see the government get behind such projects and it’s important to support them. I mean, come on, it’s FREE!
THE ARTERY: Upon arrival, you will be directed to a dog leg tunnel which was once used to transport minerals and goods, is now a walking gallery featuring artists such as Ears, Ghostpatrol, Ben Frost, Ha Ha, James Jirat Patradoon, Jumbo, Max Berry, Numskull, Vexta, Zap, Deb, Bennett, Mini Graff, Shannon Crees, Shida, Sprinkles, Lister, Itch, Makatron, Sync, Reka, Phibs, Prizm, Beastman, Dmote, Drewfunk, The Yok, SMC3, Meggs and Rone.

IRONLAK BUS: Once an RBT, Booze Bus, is now being defaced or given new life by the supremely skilled Ironlak team, including SOFLES and others.

KID ZOOM: Australian born Kid Zoom reflects on his upbringing in Australian suburbs in a extremely unique way, by burning and destroying 3 Holden Commodores on film and adding an element of death by painting the demise on a weatherboard house. Interpret as you will.

ANTHONY LISTER INFLATABLES: All around the island you will notice big balloons tied down, and covered with Anthony Listers’ signature style, creepy and garish faces.

FOUNDATIONS: Featuring old skool Sydney graf crew legends ‘Insomniaks’ (formerly Ignore Mainstream Crew) Curated by Phibs of the Melbourne Everfresh Crew, this is the spot to check out some wildstyle OG graffiti pieces.

NEXT BY T-WORLD – What lies in “The heavy machine shop” is a head-trip into street fashion, avid fans of streetwear labels and tee-shirt design will be blown away by the amount of rare and collectable tee shirts from all over the world. Profiles from some of the worlds best streetwear fashion labels are on display, get in there and get some educated.

PASTEMODERNISM 3 – 3 rooms covered from roof to floor with paste-ups from over 100 international and local artists, you could literally spend the whole time looking at all the little intricacies. Curated by Ben Frost.

VEXTA – (LIVE WORK):Vexta will be live painting the huge exterior facade of a warehouse building wall. The sheer size of this piece is phenomenal, I’d imagine this will evolve into an amazing wall of work.

OI YOU! COLLECTION: A collection of prized Banksy originals from George Shaw. Owning an original limited Banksy is a safe-keep, but owning 22 of the most influential pieces is infinitely more desirable. You’ll also see some rare collectables from Swoon, David Choe, Faile. OS Gemoes, D*Face, Anthony Micallef, Bast, Judith Supine and Mike Mills amongst others.

Absolutely make sure you check out the Skateboarding Australia World Pro/Am Tour, the space is amazing.
