BALI SLEEPING

COMO Shambhala Estate, Ubud +62 361 978 888
The mother of all health and wellbeing retreats. Set in the middle of an Avatar-esque rainforest, this extraordinary place ensures instant zen from the moment you check in. See our feature on Como Shambhala.

Gili Meno
The quietest and most beautiful of the 3 Gili islands. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise; if it’s paradise you’re looking for, hop straight on a boat to Meno. Not much else to do here but snorkel, lie on the beach, and relax. The accommodation options are mainly simple huts and bungalows – one with air conditioning will cost around $80 per night.

Nihiwatu, Samba +62 361 757 149
Situated on the island of Sumba, this remote eco-resort is comprised of only seven bungalows and three villas, and is the kind of place you’ll only hear about through a friend of a friend. So we’re here to spoil the secret. This is privacy on a whole new level; the Nihiwatu property extends for 438 acres of tropical forest and rice terraces, and has a two and a half kilometer beach kept exclusively for guests.

Amanwana, Moyo Island +62 371 222 33
This island resort is a one-hour flight from Bali, and like each of its sister resorts in the Aman group, set within a natural wonderland. In this secluded hideaway all of the rooms are actually tents – albeit, luxurious tents with solid walls, large bathrooms, coral-stone decks, and sand paths leading right down to the private beach.

Villa Coco Grove, Seminyak
If you’re staying in Seminyak, or Seminyuk, as some refer to it in the busy months, you need to stay somewhere where you can completely remove yourself from the madness going on outside. Get a few friends together and hire this villa for a totally unique, private Bali experience. Complete with staff, an enormous garden and an oversized swimming pool, you’ll almost never have to leave.

Bulgari Hotel, Uluwatu
This luxurious hotel won’t fall into most Bali budgets, but at least go there for a cocktail and watch the waves roll in from high up on the rugged cliffs of Uluwatu.

Four Seasons Resort, Jimbaran Bay +62 361 701 010

Overlooking the beach of Jimbaran Bay, this typically Balinese style resort has light, airy villas with ocean views, plunge pools, and separate sleeping, bathing, and dining pavilions. The best thing about this resort is you can walk straight onto the beach and swim in clean, fresh water – which is not always possible in this area of Bali.

Tugu, Canggu +62 361 731 701

Elaborate antique décor in a peaceful, beachside hotel. Everything about this place is romantic – from the luxurious suites, to the 300-year old dining temple, to the grand piano in the middle of the restaurant, which is played at various times throughout the day.

Villa Mana, Canggu +62 361 730 668
An absolutely stunning 6-bedroom villa set in the luscious rice patties of Canggu. No more words needed, just check it out!

Uma Sapna, Seminyak +62 361 736 628
A beautiful boutique hotel with great service and modern rooms with all the mod cons. Quiet, calm and situated in the heart of Seminyak.
