ANDY X: WARHOL REBORN

Andy Warhol, the father of pop art, was the original social networker. Before Facebook, there was Warhol’s Factory, a studio that drew together an inspiringly diverse web of celebrities, socialites, intellectuals and creatives. To coincide with the twenty-fifth anniversary of Warhol’s death, director Jim Sharman will launch his latest visual art film ANDY X, a multi-disciplinary musical exploration of the fascinating life and times of the artist.

Sharman, best known as the director of perennial cult favourite The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has chosen to release his new project online at the exact moment of Warhol’s passing: February 22 2012 at 10:21pm EST. In keeping with Warhol’s celebrated social networking skills, fans of ANDY X on Facebook will be able to deduct their balance of Facebook friends from the $US6.99 rental fee.

Sharman’s forty minute cinematic portrait of Andy Warhol will no doubt serve to shine fresh and entertaining light on an oft-explored enigma. Next week, we will feature exclusive images of ANDY X and a Q and A with director Jim Sharman to whet your appetite for the film’s release. Stay tuned.
